Serving top notch Indian cuisine with arabian influences, Peppermill in Dubai Festival City pleases not just your palate but is also visually appeasing with its private dining spaces which you can take a pick from and to make things more interesting they are named after cities such as Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai , Madras and few more leaving you to enjoy sweeping views of the festival city fountain in its magnificent dining areas.

For starters, we feasted on the nest which are masala pea crusted chicken dumplings plated on the notes of a nest smothered with barbecue tamarind sauce and yogurt. Loved the concept of using peas as a crust but though the filling was delicious. i found the dumpling to be slightly on the harder side but the sauce made for the perfect accompaniment.

The tomato shorba soup is a must try , as it combines the goodness of fresh tomato and coriander soup which is delicately poured on a mixture of butter poached vegetable, raisin ratatouille and pao crisps which bears semblance to croutons.

My undying love for seafood is quite inevitable in my posts, so the kataifi prawns had to be ordered who are dressed to impress as you can bite right into the crispiness of the prawns which is coated with kataifi , a middle eastern pastry and when accompanied with a dip off chilled mango salsa that contains heavy chunks of mango, i could eat the whole dish on my own.

If you love juicy kebabs grilled straight from the tandoor oven, and if you would like to sample a piece of all kinds, then opt for the gymkhana selection which boasts succulent pieces of malai tikka, chicken tikka, korma cheap, seekh kebab, ajwaini fish, jingo balai and grilled potato. It was hard for me to pick a favorite as all were truly delicious and had a well balanced spice level.

i always wanted to venture out to Nepal but i would just have to be satisfied with Peppermill bringing a taste of nepal to me with its gorkha chicken, chicken cubes are stir fried in a spicy meld of spring onions, coriander and black pepper. The chicken cubes were nice and tender and since this dish is a lot more on the drier side, it can be eaten on its own or if you prefer with roti.

The nail roganghosh was the deserved winner of the night with braised baby lamb shanks showered with thick gravy and cooked in an assimilation of kashmir fennel, kashmiri chill and yoghurt stew that lends flavor to the aromatic curry. The meat fell so softly from the bone being tender in nature and packed with flavor.

The chicken biryani has us craving more as fragrant basmati rice meets with curried chicken and comes together in a pot of fragrant spices of cardamom, cinnamon, pepper and lots more to gratify your senses.

Sweetness comes in platters as well so what was plated? The gulab jamun which makes sense to be on the menu as it is one of the favorites of the community. Though it was a little bit on the sweeter side for me, the gulab jamun melts in your mouth as it is accompanied with apricot and prune confit and mandarin rabdi which lends added sweetness to the dish.

The coconut cream and pepper corn pannacota was extravagant as the pannacoata is floored with strawberry granita, spiced fennel , thandai milk crumble and star anise flavored apricot compote.Though this dish is heavily cream based,i found to be it nice and light on the palate and a custard like texture.

Coming to my favorite, after all its always nice to save the best things for last, the kesari rasmalai , an indian version of cheesecake paired with the fragrant aroma of saffron. This dish gets its flavor and richness from saffron and its nutty flavor comes from a mixed assortment of pistachios and almonds.

What was on our plate? The chia seeds puddings if you are more bent towards healthy. This treat is everything from delicious to healthy and super creamy as slices of fresh fruit, coconut milk, yoghurt and chia seeds meet together as one happy family leaving you to enjoy each and every bite. I for sure enjoyed this wholesome dish.

The arabic breakfast was one of my favorites basically containing egg shashouka which is poached eggs cooked simultaneously with harissa, smoked egg plant salad, labneh and sour dough. The saucy flavor was a delicious aspect, the eggs were well cooked and not too runny and the eggplant salad was perfect for the finishing touch.

Looking for a more complete breakfast, then the fume pan is the answer to your prayers with classic breakfast, served in a giant from eggs served of your choice to sausages, black mushroom, grilled tomatoes and hash browns. Though nothing about this dish did anything for me, it a great choice if you are looking to have a fulfilling breakfast and its great to take some insta worthy photos.

The Lotus pancakes stole my heart away as well my tummy, though this dish can easily be shared by two, as three pancakes are stacked on top of each other, with a large serving of Chantilly cream, lotus crumbs and dollops of peanut caramel sauce and a slice of banana. One bite and i promise you will already be busy delving into this sweet treat cutting out your next bite.

Japanese craving at Sugoi DFC

Longing to have a bento box or sushi? Then head over to Sugoi who not only serve delectable sushi platters and bento boxes but also throw in some great barbecue dishes such as the teriyaki salmon, juicy to the bite and flakes apart at the fork.

For starters we had the prawn tempura, my go to dish is prawns as i can have them in any form. Be it grilled, baked or stir fried, so i was happy to order light battered fried prawns served with tempura sauce on the side. Though i found the prawns a little to greasy for my taste, the flavor was on point as the prawns were crisp and fleshy.

The tuna maki roll wrapped with flavor was one of my favorites with the tuna being packed with flavor and topped with creamy sauce , the prawn tempura roll topped with sesame seeds crunchy to the bite and contained my favorite ingredients, prawn and avocado and the california roll fulfilled my appetite as it was fresh to the taste and were the perfect ending to my starters.

My favorite sauce being teriyaki, as i love the combination of sweet and spicy flavors with its rich texture, hence we ordered the teriyaki salmon which was a wise choice. and quite a tasty one. The flavor of the sauce blended well with the salmon leaving each bite tasteful and giving the fish a nice and light glaze of its own.

I love bento boxes, well mainly the concept as they give you to try perfect portions of different dishes- we chose stir fried noodles with chicken wings grilled and glazed with flavor, prawns on skewers of which i was tempted to try out more as the prawns has a nice smoky flavor to them and the teriyaki beef has the perfect blend of flavor with sweet and spice factors.

Italian Restaurant in the Capital – Bocca – Launches New Menu

Bocca, the award-winning Italian restaurant at Hilton Abu Dhabi, unveils a new menu inspired by traditional recipes prepared at home by the Italian chefs’ grandmothers.

ABU DHABI – July 19, 2017 – A brand-new a la carte menu has been launched at Bocca, the award-winning Italian restaurant at Hilton Abu Dhabi. In addition to Chef Leonardo Passone’s signature dishes, the new menu features a wide selection of antipasti, soups, pastas, pizzas and desserts.

Tucked within the first floor of the historic hotel by the Corniche, Bocca is known for offering its guests an authentic Italian dining experience defined by simple dishes, high-quality ingredients and the passion for cooking.

The restaurant’s Head Chef Leonardo Passone has partnered with the hotel’s Executive Chef Walter Miculan to recreate the traditional recipes of Italy by giving it their modern representation. Taking inspiration from the cooking styles of their grandparents, the chefs have created a new menu at Bocca with a focus on simplicity and premium ingredients.

“We would like to take our guests at Bocca on a journey through our homeland with the new menu,” said Walter Miculan, Executive Chef, Hilton Abu Dhabi.

“To guarantee the authentic flavours from back home, we have imported special ingredients from Italy and seasonal produce from different parts of Europe.”

The new menu kicks off with a selection of antipasti which includes platters of Italian cheeses and cold cuts, and favourites like bruschetta, Caprese and burrata salads, prosciutto and fried calamari. The slow-cooked octopus with marinated potatoes and seared scallops with beans puree offer a unique start to the meal.

There are two varieties of carpaccio – tuna and beef – on offer as well. The two kinds of soup are green peas with spinach and roasted tomato with melted goat cheese.

“We want our guests to have a memorable culinary experience on each visit, which is why we have carefully curated each dish on the menu by adding our personal touch to recipes that we enjoyed while growing up in Italy,” said Leonardo Passone, chef de cuisine at Bocca.

Offering a taste of the classics is the range of risottos and pastas which can be cooked in a sauce of the guest’s preference, as well as the variety of pizzas prepared from scratch at the live dough station which faces the dining area.

For those who want to steer away from the classics, Bocca has eight choices of mains including corn-fed baby chicken, grilled rack of lamb and pan-fried sea bream fillet.

“A meal is not complete in Italy until you’ve had something sweet, what we refer to as ‘dolce’. This is as important as the main meal for us,” Walter added.

For desserts, there is a marinated summer peach, banana panacotta, coconut semifreddo, and the all-time favourite of patrons – the Bocca Tiramisu.

Bocca is open daily for dinner from 7pm to 11pm, and from 12noon to 3.30pm for lunch from Sunday to Thursday.

Get your freak on with the freak shakes that are freaking good. Strawberry cheese cake and fudge brownie took the plunge right into our tummies and it was a tough choice who takes the winning place as both were equally good and rich!As i am inclined towards chocolate, the brownie shake took a special place in my heart as i chewed on decadent pieces of brownie bits with a fragrant taste of coffee. The strawberry cheesecake felt like i was sipping on dessert and was a tad bit sweet for me but nevertheless delicious.

The pancakes were up next and though the presentation was immaculate with splashes of raspberry mascarpone strewn over the bright red velvet pancakes and drizzles of nutella and mixed berries over the stacked pancakes, the presentation did not live up to its taste. The pancakes crumbled to pieces while going under the knife and tasted quite dry and lacked flavor. Maybe it was not my lucky day and sometimes thats just the way the cookie crumbles.

High points of our dinner was the spanish omelette, yes they happen to serve all day breakfast for which they score brownie points – i love a combination of chorizo and eggs as the sausage imparts flavor to the eggs with its delicate spice factor. The omelette is also topped with roasted balsamic tomato and fresh rocket leaves which gives a nice slight fragrance.

Next up, I went into an arm wrestle with my opponent, the strong arm burger and guess who won? Strong arm of course with his mighty size as i stood face to face with a juicy and delicious angus beef burger dressed with strips of veal bacon, copious amounts of melted cheese and seasoned wedges. The chicken parmigiana was stellar in taste and the true winner of the night, with breaded crispy chicken breast schnitzel ,smoked veal bacon slathered with a dose of rich marinara sauce, melted cheese with a side of crispy wedges and broccolini and ticks all the points for me in terms of taste, satisfaction and being totally comforting.

The roasted sea bass was a close contender as the fillet meets with asparagus, baby potatoes with hollandaise and pesto sauce. The sauce lends a delicious flavor to the roasted fish with its basil and garlic flavor gives the dish a redolence.

Although we felt full to the top, we could not leave without having a sweet course and with the choices available, we were on the fence but decisions had to be made and we went with the favorite, chocolate brownie with ice cream- you would know me by now that i always have a serious relationship with this dessert being my two favorite things in the world put together – i loved how moist the brownie was and when met with ice cream, to make it short, i had the plate cleaned to the very last bite.

And since i was not yet fully satisfied, i chose another brownie dessert which had a very different blend, one of coffee and fragrant cardamom which gave it a nice aromatic flavor. What gives it another level of decadence is that added topping of halawa brownie truffle.Need i say more?As it was the month of Ramadan, to give it a feel, white shaped moon crescent figurines were placed on the brownie.
