Drop Shares Insights: What You Didn’t Know About That Cup of Joe

From its potential discovery by the legendary Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder, to being celebrated internationally in the month of October, coffee has grown to become a ritualistic lifestyle for many.

But have you ever wondered if there was more to that delicious cup of joe you drank this morning than just a kick of energy?

With over 2.25 billion cups of coffee consumed daily all over the world and scientific research behind the benefits of sipping on brewed arabica beans, it is becoming significantly evident that coffee contributes to health benefits, economic growth and society development.

Coffee-lovers can rejoice while they sip on their favorites as the cool kids from Dubai’s newest specialty coffee offering, Drop, list the marvels of coffee.

Debating diabetes with coffee
In the UAE, where 19.3 percent of the population suffer from diabetes, coffee may play a crucial role.  According to an intensive research conducted by Dr. Frank Hu from Harvard, the risk of type II diabetes decreases by 9% for each daily cup of coffee consumed, with decaf decreasing risk by 6%.

Coffee and weights, the perfect date
Drinking coffee before a workout has been found to improve gym performance. A research conducted by Coventry University in the United Kingdom discovered that a cup of coffee not only enhanced and boosted effective gym participation, but also improved manual dexterity.

A coffee a day keeps the Grim Reaper away
Earlier this year, a study that involved 185,000 people from different cultures revealed coffee increases longevity irrespective of race and lifestyle. The study, conducted by Annals of Internal Medicine, helped discover a stronger biological possibility for the relationship between coffee and longevity. It also concluded that heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease and stroke had a lower chance of occurring due to the consistent consumption of coffee.

Coffee currency
Ethically sourced coffee instigates genuine relationships directly with farmers and supports fair payment. The elimination of a middle man and mutual understanding for quality beans at fairly paid prices helps enrich the farmers’ lives. This in turn helps lead to opportunities of better quality of life with possibilities of schools and education in a poverty-dominant environment. Also, an estimated 27 million people rely on coffee as their economic mainstay with an estimate of 197 hands that have worked to deliver every cup of coffee from seed to cup.

Cup of happiness
What’s better than an energy boost? A happy boost! According to a decade-long study on caffeine and its relationship with mental health, it was found that depression risk decreases with increasing caffeinated coffee consumption.

The coffee industry is always growing, always evolving, and always adapting. New ways of growing, harvesting, and processing are being explored on a daily basis. Coffee is a science to a very large extent, but is also a very niche art.

BANYAN TREE SPAS THAILAND GARNER TRIPLE WIN FOR AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FOR HEALTH TOURISM AT THE 11th THAILAND TOURISM AWARDS 2017

Thailand, October 2017 – Three Banyan Tree Spas in Thailand have won the Award of Excellence for Health Tourism at the prestigious biannual 11th Thailand Tourism Awards 2017 organised by Tourism Authority of Thailand.  Banyan Tree Phuket Spa Sanctuary garnered Award of Excellence for Health Tourism – Health & Wellness Destination (Nationwide), Banyan Tree Spa Bangkok received Award of Excellence for Health Tourism – Hotel/Resort Spa (Central Region) and Banyan Tree Spa Samui achieved Award of Excellence for Health Tourism – Hotel/Resort Spa (Southern Region).

Thailand Tourism Awards are designed to raise Thailand’s industry standards and recognise companies and individuals that have contributed to advancing a positive image of the Thai travel and tourism sector, established as one of the country’s key socio-economic development pillars. The Awards are unique in that they meet very specific criteria that link a high-quality tourism product with exemplary standards of service and facilities to the broader goals of national development, including culture, heritage and the environment.

The Judging Committee consists of specialists and experts from various sectors related to tourism. The judging criteria requires applicants to highlight how they are helping to conserve the country’s natural resources, mitigating climate change, contributing to economic and social development, practising good governance and innovation.

“We are honoured that our three Banyan Tree Spas located in Thailand are the distinguished winners of Thailand Tourism Awards 2017 Award of Excellence this year. These awards are fine testimonies of Banyan Tree Spa’s strong brand recognition and service quality, as well as the result of our core focus on the rigorous training and development of our spa therapists at Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Phuket, so as to ensure a high level of consistency in our service delivery,” says Ms Kingkarn Olarngarnjanin, Assistant Vice President/Executive Director of Banyan Tree Spa & Gallery.

When Banyan Tree Spa first opened in Phuket, Thailand in 1994, it pioneered the tropical garden spa concept with its Asian therapies and holistic focus on spiritual, mental and physical harmony. Like the tropical and sacred tree from which it got its name, the Banyan Tree Spa offers guests a Sanctuary for the Senses – a place for physical, mental and spiritual renewal. To achieve this, the spa focuses on a non-clinical and holistic approach based on traditional Asian healing therapies. It emphasises a ‘high-touch, low-tech’ approach that celebrates the human touch and the use of natural herbs and spices.

Today, Banyan Tree Spa continues to raise the bar in the evolving spa and wellness industry, strengthening its brand presence in the global spa scene and amongst global travellers. With close to 600 spa awards and accolades, the intuitive art of touch is the key to its expansion and global footprints, growing from one Banyan Tree Spa in 1994 to become one of the largest spa operators in Asia today.
