When i hear the word bateel, the first word that pops to my mind is dates and all kinds of them, besotted with nuts and even chocolate enriched so knowing that they have a cafe that also offers a world of breakfast, lunch and dinner to add to its hat remaining true to its rich Arabian heritage in a relaxing and warm ambience.
For starters, we had the burrata pesto which makes for a very elegant appetizer and of course to satisfy my italian craving. Creamy burrata cheese with farro grains, artichoke, kale, jir air and the flavors of avocado meet each other in unison showered with a coriander pesto dressing which i thoroughly enjoyed with a chilled glass of sparkling date wine by my side. The burrata was so creamy and went seamlessly with the well flavored pesto.
My eyes loomed over the indulgent lamb confit as the main course which i could not help choose. The result- meltingly soft and braised lamb shoulder served with an amalgamation of umbrian farro grains for that arabic touch, chickpeas, chewy greek mushrooms and the sweetness of caramelized onions making for a fulfilling and wholesome meal.
Seafood always gets the best of me hence, we ordered the chilean sea bass fillet ,the flavor which was thoroughly pleasant as the fish had a nice and firm texture, and served on a bed of aubergine coulis with sautéed celeriac, heirloom carrots, parsnips, artichoke and the crunch of chestnuts.
Desserts were waiting for me and boy, was i spoilt for choice with the varieties available. The pear and chocolate cake was just what i dreamed it to be. A vision of a vanilla almond sponge topped with sweet pear compote, the sinfulness of rich chocolate mousse and chocolate cremeux. The first bite, and i could not resist having the second as the chocolate and pear so wonderfully work with each other in unison.
My soft corner for the desserts happens to be a very large corner as for seconds, we ordered the peanut delight which was so delightful in nature, as a light fluffy sponge meets our eyes with delectable layers of peanut streusel, peanut mousse and dulcey cream- Peanut lovers, you know what to choose, Though the peanut flavor was a little too rich for me, it does make for a heavenly dessert.
Cheesecake- i love everything about it, the creaminess, the biscuit crust and it was no surprise well to myself that i ordered the raspberry rose lychee cheesecake which comes with a crispy almond biscuit and vanilla sponge layered base topped with wait for it, raspberry and lychee jam- how to well describe this darling?Creamy, decadent and downright delicious! The strawberry tart is also a great choice to have if you are an avid fan of strawberries dolloped with pistachio cream, berry points for the presentation being on point.
You just cannot not have the coffees on offer at Bateel, so just to get a taste of it, i ordered and tried the layered signature coffee and to tag along with it are some of Bateel’s signature dates that are so soft, they melt in your mouth, a puff of richness. The latte has a surprise note in it, natural date syrup which might be a little overwhelming for some but nonetheless quite enriching to end your meal.
When it comes to #dessert, I’ve a soft corner for it especially when you’ve a great selection like at @bateelgourmet’s new spring menu. . . Take your pick from either the #peanut #delight or #raspberry #roselychee #cheesecake. I personally favored the #cheesecake for obvious reasons haha. Loved the crunchy #peanut #steusel #core but there’s something about #almond biscuit + #vanilla sponge base with a layer of raspberry and lychee jam that can’t be beaten.
