Contemporary middle eastern at Al Maeda

Home to traditional mezze with a touch of modern inspiration , @almaeda_restaurant surely hit all the right notes with their selection.

Though it feels winter in sunny dubai, there is nothing more refreshing than a bowl of watermelon. It was quite surprisingly packed with flavour and makes for an interesting combination with its sweetness and sourness of cheese.

The Eggplant ganoush had a nice silky flavour and creamy texture and it worked perfectly as a dip with a combination of chili paste , garlic and tahini and a swirl of olive oil, served with pita bread on the side.

Though hummus is usually made with chickpeas and a dish I am so used to, the pistachio hummus was a different and creative take on this lovely and fragrant dip. The hummus not only contains the mild flavour of pistachio but is also culminated with flavours of basil and pesto which lends colour to the dish. The fried calamari along with eggplant and vegetables is a dish where traditional meets modern – the calamari is nice and crisp and seasoned well while the smoked egg plant is velvety in texture making for a delicate combination and robust flavour.

Though I love my grills, the selections at @almaeda_restaurant were delicious. But the highlight was the smoked freekeh which is basically whole grain wheat cooked as pilaf with lamb or chicken. Healthy yet yummylicious. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should and let your heart and palate be satisfied all the way
